Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club The Midweek Veterans v East Hertfordshire Cavaliers on Wed 21 Jun 2023 at 14-00
Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club Won by 75 runs

Match report Chelmer Veterans took the field today without their Captain, wicket keeper, and regular scorer and press officer and were further depleted by the late withdrawal of one of their regular openers however this did stop the winning run they had been on making it 5 wins on the trot.On a glorious day vice captain Mark Rynn won the toss on a road of a strip which was used Saturday and yielded over 500 runs for the premier league game for Stock.Promoted to opener for the Vets Dowling and Corey put on 146 in 21 overs for the hosts with the ball despatched to all parts of the boundary with one 6 being lost in an adjoining garden requiring a replacement ball. With the 2 openers unbeaten and retired back in the pavillion new batter Lowe pushed the scoring along with Melvin John who hit his first ball for a massive 6 to be then thwarted by a very slow long hop spooning a catch to the mid wicket fielder. However this brought to the crease the in form Stratton who with Lowe continued to push the scoring along at a good pace before Mark retired passing 50 and Paul was out for 53.Graham Boxer and Mark Rynn continued in throwing the bat at the end of the innings as Chelmer closed on an impressive 278 which would take a lot of getting but on superb wicket.East Herts were put on the backfoot straight away when opener Unwin was caught behind by stand in wicketkeeper Rynn for a duck.Fellow opener Kadir was his usual self pulling anything short and late cutting anything off line giving the Chelmer slips a few chances however the introduction of leg spinner Mark Taylor tempted the opener into a mistimed big shot falling to the safe hands of Mark Stratton.Wright and Freeman played some attacking shots finding the boundary on a few occasions but the magnitude of the Chelmer score and tight bowling and excellent fielding especially by Melvin John who's rapier like throw accounted for the run out of big hitting Freeman made the home teams score insurmountable despite their best efforts Chelmer winning by a comfortable 75 runs and look forward to next weeks encounter coming up against the county players of Essex and Suffolk Two Counties X1.
