Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club The Midweek Veterans v North Weald on Wed 16 Aug 2023 at 13-30
Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club Won by 8 wkts

Match report The lead up to the match had caused the Chairman of Selectors a major headache with eight umavailable from the previous week but with much behind the scenes support from Suthers and Bakes 11 took to the field to face a very young looking North Weald.
The captain's mood didn't change with the opposition winning the toss and electing to bat on a proper summer afternoon with temperatures in the mid twenties and a good looking Stock track.
With the ever dependable Chris Baker supported by Paul Marshall they set about the task of trying to thwart the aggressive batting of Ward who has previously plundered a couple of tons against us in the past and he once again made his intentions clear by scoring a quick fire fifty of not many balls. He eventually gave a chance when on 67 skying one off Bakes but caught on the run by Elliott. Nilesh returning to the fold having been ' contracted' by Essex Over 60,s then removed the other opener for 7. This then bought a very young looking Virat Koli to the crease who on his first delivery from Bakes sent the ball into the hands of Goodrich at midwicket. There then came a sorrowful plea from him for another chance and to the dismay of the bowler Griff showed compassion and directed the umpire to call No Ball and suffice to say Bakes was not amused 😂
Nish and the skipper then tied the visitors down bowling 8 overs each both only going for 16 runs with Griff taking two wickets and Nish one. Marshall returned to finish his spell taking 2 wickets ably supported by another guest Glen Hyltonwho took one in a tidy spell.
The visitors finished on 161with Bunn showing solid resistance on 55no. and this was a score that was a lot less than had been initially expected.
Suthers and Anand Patil then opened the reply for the home side with Suthers playing some excellent stroke play retiring 53no. .Anand got to 29 after his first game in seven years for CVCC before being caught at mid on. Paul Lowe then struck one to cover on 11 which then brought another of our guests Sean Elliott to the wicket who then raced to fifty n. o with some powerful hitting and the home side back to their winning ways after the two set backs in the previous games. On another positive note Bakes is talking to Griff again!!
