Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club The Midweek Veterans v Rainmen on Wed 14 May 2025 at 13-30
Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club Won by 48 runs

Match report On another sun drenched afternoon saw Chelmer play their first home game of the season at Stock with skipper Griff winning the toss and not hesitating in batting first. The Rainmen captain being 'Old School' preferred a traditional game but after some negotiation agreed on a 40 overs match with no bowling restrictions and the need to bowl the opposing side out to win the game! The added incentive of a declaration was also thrown into the mix..
Chelmer openers Cory and Melvin got off to a steady start against some sedate bowling with Cory having reached 24 was caught in the covers. Melvin continued with some aggressive stroke play before retiring on 50 no. Coops at last back in the ranks appeared to be a little rusty after a lengthy absence from the crease and was dismissed on 11 once again caught on the drive. Ian Goodrich made good progress and retired on 51 as did Mark Rynn batting at five. The middle order then found batting a little harder with the remaining wickets falling with only a further twenty runs being added to the scorecard. Skipper Griff still hampered by a hamstring injury sustained the previous week chose not to bat and declared the innings at 227-7 off 37 overs.
The Rainmen reply got off to an impressive start with opener Mcillwaine striking boundaries at will having apparently tweaked a calf muscle was supported by a runner and retired having reached 50 in quick time. The innings was then slowed by some excellent bowling with Alan Porter 2 wickets Melvin and Anand 3 apiece. Middleton batting at 3 appeared to have steadied the reply and when on 32 was superbly run out by Anand who throwing in from about 50 yards with a direct hit!
Some controversy then arose when Mcillwaine then made his way back to the wicket with three other batters yet to start. After a short but direct response by Griff he returned to the pavilion to wait his appropriate return. With the score still behind the run rate Mcillwaine then returned with nine wickets down and again continued in the same vain and when on 89no finally run out of partners seeing Chelmer gain their first win of the new season.
