Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club Won by 106 runs
Match report
A winning toss saw Chelmer choose to bat first against Eastwood Vets. After the early loss of Melvin John, playing round a straight one, Anand Patil and Sean Elliot made good progress taking the score to 59 before a magnificent catch on the deep cover boundary removed Sean for 26. Anand retired 50 not out shortly after drinks, soon followed by Suthers, who nicked off for 14, finding the slow bowling not to his liking. Meanwhile, the in-form Mark Rynn reached the 50 run retirement landmark with the score on 158 and ten overs left. Graham Boxer and Paul Marshall kept the momentum going, reaching 198 before Graham was lbw for 29. Chris Baker ticked the board over with Paul (23 not out) to take Chelmer to 218 for 5 in their 40 overs.
An early wicket each for Chris Baker and Alan Porter, both with slip catches expertly held by Suthers, immediately put Eastwood on the back foot, 13 for 2 in the 7th over. This set the tone for Chelmer's best fielding display of the season so far, with Mark Rynn and Griff holding good catches off the opening bowlers to put the visitors in bother at 26 for 4 in the 11th over. Another Rynn catch in Alan's last over made it 52 for 5 and gave Alan figures of 8 overs, 3 for 21 after Bakes had finished with 8 overs, 2 for 24. Melvin took the first of his three smart catches for the 6th wicket with 54 on the board. When Griff bowled Jeeves at 78 for 7, followed by more superb out-cricket when Graham effected a direct-hit run out from deep midwicket, 89 for 8, it left a mountain to climb. Phil Bartlett scaled the foothills with 24 not out, but it was never enough, Melvin taking his third catch low down off Griff to end proceedings at 112 all out in 30.5 overs, Chelmer winning by 106 runs.
