Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club The Midweek Veterans v Essex Seniors 60 on Wed 19 Jul 2023 at 12-30
Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club Won by 9 wkts

Match report For the third time this season Chelmer faced county opposition this time in the form of Essex Seniors over 60's.Vice Captain Mark Rynn broke Dave's winning the toss habit and confined the home side to taking the field first with 9 players with one arriving late and a morning withdrawal from the other but Essex kindly allowing one of their players to be a sub fielder. With Essex having first use of the Stock track which lately has resembled as they say in the game a road,Chelmers opening bowlers Baker and Porter were bowling an excellent line restricting the Essex openers to 37 for no wicket off the first 10 overs. After this wickets fell at regular intervals as the visitors tried to build a big total but Captain Mark turning to left arm off spin of Mark Stratton put the brakes on, with the ball spinning he accounted for the Skipper Fereday for 23 and with fellow opener Wijesooriya bowled by guest Paul Marshall for 37 it was Stratton took out the middle order taking 4 for 29 from 8 overs. No 6 Sims run out by an excellent piece of fielding for a well crafted 33 and a 10th wicket partnership of 26 allowing Essex to set the home side of 180 to win in 40 overs.Guest Paul Marshall chipping in with 2 wickets and Phil Bartlett 1 and backed up by some excellent all round bowling and fielding the game was evenly poised. However when Chelmer padded up to bat they were without their 2 regular openers one being unavailable the other having to pull out before the start with work issues.Middle order batter Graham Boxer and Mark Stratton who has opened before were sent into begin the chase and were building a good partnership and at 58 for no wicket off 14 overs but Essex were fortunate when opener Boxer played on to bowler McKay for 21.No 3 Paul Lowe joined Mark Stratton at the crease and the pair moved the scoring on at a good pace and at drinks 20 overs Chelmer were 87 for 1.After drinks the tempo was increased with Stratton seeing the ball well was finding the boundary at ease hitting 14 fours and a six making his second ton for Chelmer this season finishing 103 not out with Paul Lowe finishing 40 not out taking the minor role in a 2nd wicket partnership of 122 in 16 overs the home side reaching the winning total of 180 in only 30 overs.Chelmer Veterans winning run continues with it now being 8 wins on the bounce which has not happened before in the clubs history and look forward to next weeks encounter with Eastwood Veterans who only put out an occasional side but include 2 of Chelmers regular players.
