Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club The Midweek Veterans v Essex Police on Wed 27 Sep 2023 at 12-30
Chelmer Veterans Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts

Match report And so as the season drew to a close the final game saw us host Griffs former employers in Essex Police Vets. Selection over the past weeks has been a challenge with a number of players already signing their season off. Chairman of selectors has had the need to bring in a number of guests and again this was the case with Chris Baker having succumbed to Covid and having to withdraw from the team. Chris Westwood from Stock 1st X1 answered the call which also saw Cliff Faraday keep wicket and Martin Robinson playing his first game of the season for Chelmer along with Wayne Morgan returning to the fold.
A Gentleman's agreement saw the Police bat first on a green looking track. They got off to a steady start with their openers putting on 84 at the 20 over Mark. Alan Porter bowling a tight spell of 7- 1-15-0 supported by Wayne bowling his 8 overs for 31. Griff and Nish then replaced the opening pair with Nish going on to claim three wickets in a tight spell conceding only 27. Further wickets were claimed by Phil Bartlett and Graham Boxer saw the visitors end on 190 - 5.
The reply saw Martin Robinson open up with Anand. Martin fell in the sixth over for 6 caught in the covers and saw Paul Lowe replace him but unfortunately saw him go for a duck with one that moved and hit him infront of the stumps leg before.
Westers then came to the crease and bludgeoned 33 in a partnership 52 with Anand who was steadying the ship at the other end. The next three batsman came and went cheaply and at 116 - 6 in the 24th over the target seemed a long way off and the win unlikely.
Anand had seen partners come and go and with Cliff Faraday in at number 8 it now looked a lost cause. However there then came one of the finest innings of sublime stroke play to be witnessed in a vets game when in a partnership with Cliff of 73 saw Chelmer steal the win with the last ball of the penultimate over and Anand finishing on 113no and Cliff 14no to bring to close a very successful and entertaining season.
The Captain wishes to thank all those that have contributed and played their part in making Chelmer Vets go from strength to strength throughout the season.
