Match report Another lost toss sent Chelmer Veterans into the field against North Weald. But it was looking like a good toss to lose as Chris Baker and Paul Marshall reduced the visitors to 48 for 5 after 12 overs, each hitting the stumps with an absolute jaffa and aided by good catches from Ed Oliver, Chris Sutherby and Dave Griffiths. Unfortunately that was almost as good as it got in the catching department as North Weald dug in, moving from 80 for 5 at drinks (20 overs) to 114 for 6 after 27, keeper Ed taking another good low catch off Griff. Some big overs in the final ten, along with many drops mostly off Glenn Hylton's tempters, saw the innings close on 197 for 6 after 40 overs, built around 83 not out from Ward and 32 not out from the impressive youngster Fuller.

Chelmer's reply started briskly with 17 from the first 3 overs, unfortunately with the loss of Melvin John, mis-hitting a short ball straight into the hands of a fielder. Suthers joined Richard Cory to add 65 in 7.3 overs for the second wicket, Cory bowled by a good ball. Mark Rynn and Suthers put on 55, reaching 137 for 2 at drinks when Suthers sportingly retired on 58 not out, to let others have a bat. Glenn Hylton did not spurn the opportunity, scoring 30 not out in an unbroken stand of 60 with Mark Rynn (45 not out), who hit the winning run in the 34th over. Chelmer had survived a bogey-number bonanza, being 111 for 2 with 87 needed, but were aided by several simple dropped catches from the opposition in an afternoon where so many went down that we all lost count.
