Brian Robinson 1942 – 2018
It
is with sadness that we have said cheerio to one of our senior cricketers,
Brian Robinson, who passed away in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
Brian had broken a femur on 13th November, at the site where cancer had
infiltrated the bone, and unfortunately his health rapidly deteriorated
thereafter. It is known that he received marvellous care from the
Macmillan nurses at Broomfield Hospital, who ensured his passing was both pain
free and peaceful.
Brian,
known affectionately as "dangerous" to his Two Counties (viz Suffolk
& Essex)Cricket League friends, was a career army man before moving from
Aldershot to Braintree, whereat he proved his worth coaching cricket at his
local club, Braintree CC. Brian subsequently transferred his skills to
Kelvedon & Feering CC, where, in addition to coaching at this club, he also
assisted in the coaching of young female Essex County players.
A
very intelligent man, being well read with a wide variety of interests, Brian
was especially in demand for quiz evenings, at which both he, and his wife
Mary, excelled.
A
little known fact regarding Brian, was his supporting of Grimsby Town FC.
In May 2016, and possibly the only man in Braintree at the time who was a fan
of the Cleethorpes outfit, he enjoyed a very happy experience when Grimsby beat
Braintree 2-0, at Braintree, overturning a 1-0 defeat at home, to go through to
the National League play-off final in which they beat Forest Green Rovers 3-1
to gain promotion back to the Football League.
Brian
will be missed by all those who knew him, colleagues from his army life, the
many cricketers who played alongside him, the young people he has coached, and
of course his family and friends. And it is to his wife Mary, and his
family, that our thoughts turn at this sad time."
